Getting started

How do I create my team?

Go to app.foxauth.com, sign in with Google or your work email, and name your team. You become the owner. Owners and admins set up an authenticator app as a second factor the first time they sign in.

How do I invite teammates?

Open Members and choose Invite member or Invite admin. Send the link to one person. Each link works once and expires after 7 days.

How do I add a 2FA code?
  1. When a site shows you its 2FA setup QR code, click Add token in FoxAuth.
  2. Drop or paste a screenshot of the QR code (Cmd/Ctrl+V works anywhere on the page), scan it with your camera, or paste the setup key.
  3. Check the name and website, choose Team or Only me, and save.
  4. If you're turning on 2FA right now, type the code shown on the confirm screen into the site to finish setup.
Can I import from Google Authenticator?

Yes. In Google Authenticator, choose Transfer accounts → Export accounts, then scan each QR code it shows. FoxAuth shows your progress ("2 of 3 scanned"). Imported accounts start as Only me, so personal accounts aren't shared by accident. Untick anything you don't want.

Chrome extension

How do I connect the extension?

Install FoxAuth from the Chrome Web Store, click the fox in your toolbar, and choose Sign in with FoxAuth. A FoxAuth tab opens. Click Connect extension and you're done. Owners and admins confirm with their authenticator code once.

"We can't find the FoxAuth extension in this browser"

Start the sign-in from the extension (click the fox → Sign in with FoxAuth), in the same Chrome profile where the extension is installed. If you have more than one copy of FoxAuth installed, remove the extra one in chrome://extensions and try again.

Autofill didn't fill the code

Some sign-in pages hide their code box inside a frame or use custom fields. When FoxAuth can't find the box, it copies the code instead. Just paste it (Cmd/Ctrl+V). Autofill doesn't run on Chrome's own pages (like the Web Store or settings).

The right code doesn't appear for the site I'm on

FoxAuth matches codes by website. Edit the code in the web app (… → Edit details) and set its Website, for example google.com. If several codes match a site, pick one in the extension and FoxAuth remembers it for next time.

How do I scan a QR code on the page I'm on?

Click the fox, then + at the bottom. FoxAuth reads the QR code on the page. If it can't find one, drag a box around the QR code. A confirm tab opens so you can save it.

Signing in

The sign-in link took me back to the login page

Links expire quickly and work once. Request a new email and use the newest one, or type the 6-digit code from the email on the sign-in screen.

I lost my authenticator app (owner or admin)

Email hello@foxauth.com from your account's email address. We'll verify it's you before resetting your second factor.

"Too many codes in a minute"

To protect shared accounts, each person can reveal up to 10 codes per minute. Wait a moment and try again.

Security and privacy

Can teammates see the secret key behind a code?

No. Secret keys are encrypted on our servers and never sent to anyone's browser or extension. Teammates only ever receive the current 6-digit code, and every reveal, copy, and autofill is recorded in your team's audit log.

What happens when someone leaves the team?

An owner or admin removes them in Members. They lose access to every shared code immediately, and their "Only me" codes are deleted.
